It can be hard for any artist to take criticism but I’m trying - TopicsExpress

It can be hard for any artist to take criticism but I’m trying to start a practice of non-attachment to my work. The raw material that we produce should be respected, however, treating it as something ‘precious’ is not productive. I think that our inner well is like a forest and our art emerges from it as trees. They need to be harvested and carved mindfully before they can reveal the inner sculpture, but we need to be respectful and gentle. They aren’t just dead things to hack at with an axe. However, there can be much unnecessary mass to remove. I normally would just use a chainsaw to chop down the tree and leave it on the forest floor to rot. I hope this new approach will allow me to create something more than just a barren field of stumps.
