It felt like Christmas when I got home today from work. Two boxes were at the gate, and in each a terrific cookbook. In one box was Jack Allens Kitchen, Celebrating the Tastes of Texas, by Jack Gilmore, and in the other, Supper at Rancho Gordo by Steve Sando. But also in the box with Steves book were two bags that at one time had contained beans! Black beans. I think I was just as excited about the bags...as was my cat Tuffy who insisted I put one on the floor so she could crawl into it. Ive already interviewed Jack and look forward to talking with Steve. I just thumbed through his book and there are a bunch of good looking soup recipes in it -- just in time for cooler fall temperatures, And, I will give him a pass on what he is calling chili, seeing as hes from California and he is a purveyor legumes. ;)
