It has been a long weekend in Topeka and it has come down to financing the School Lawsuit against taxpayers. Here was the offer on the table: $130 Million for schools in NEW spending in exchange for private money funding AT RISK CHILDREN scholarships to private schools and addressing teacher tenure. At least one is difficult difficult subjects to address: Teacher Tenure. There is not one of us that are against Teachers, they are the building blocks of our education system and shape the future leaders of Kansas. We can all agree that there are many more GOOD teachers than teachers that make bad choices. But (and there is always a but) it is always the small percent that drag down the majority and this is a principle you can apply across the board through life. To reward the Worse teachers equally with the Great teachers offer those that want to soar no incentive to aspire and promotes complacent attitudes in our school. This year we have seen the rise in arrest/conviction/union protection of tenure teachers, and severance packages handed to those that choose to break the law. Let us make this tenure argument about Leadership we place in our classroom, teachers who spend time with students, teacher who know they will not be held accountable. Let us make this debate about promoting Great Teachers....Give your schools the right to choose good leaders! How sad the Unions would fill our teachers fear and hate!
