It has been reported that Pope Francis has recently written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari. Pope Francis wrote in the La Repubblica newspaper... You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith. I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience....stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences. But Jesus said in John 5:24... Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him (God the Father) who sent me (Jesus) has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. And the Apostle Paul said in Romans 10:9,10 and13... If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. The Apostle Peter said in Acts 10:43... All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his (Jesus) name.”
