It is almost the end of another year and I am reflecting on what we can do so that 2015 will be a much better year, not just wishing for it to be better, but what can we do individually and collectively to make 2015 better. I am so much guided about an economic principle that I studied in school upteen years ago, the mound shape curve and its implications of the norm. and outliers. We see we were taught that most human behaviour is guided by the middle 66.66% of the population and the other 23.33% percent is abnormal behaviour. That in order to deduce from the general we should look at the the Norm. Simple Econs 101 that most people appreciate. In Ghana what is the Norm? The Norm has become whatever you can do to make money.Etincs, morality and simple do not do onto others what you do not wish to be done to you has been thrown to the dogs. Each man for himself and God (or which god ) for us all. Modern day preachers are using the pulpit to curse individuals. Prosecutors of the law are intentionally not showing up in court so that alleged drug barons can be set free(albeit bail), medical doctors are sodomizing their patients and getting away it because the witness is under pressure not to testify. These are all not mainstream actions, yet the population is minding its business because their cry will be met with y3m ti3 obia a popular song. We will not listen to anyone . Any country worth its soul is guided by rules, regulations, the law and a moral code. All missing in the 66.66% of the population. What is our benchmark for progress? Do we look at countries that we supposedly are doing better than or countries that are doing better than us? The US, UAE, Singapore,Switzerland or we like to compare ourselves to Togo, Zimbabwe or Nigeria? Our solution lies in admitting that we can not solve all our problems from the center and that if we cut our pie to size in small communities across this great nation we can find good people to help solve our own problems. Appointing DCEs MCEs from Accra WILL NOT solve our problems. We have accepted to have democracy as our system of govt yet what we practice is autocracy. Our elections gives us a leader for 4 years without any debate from the minority on how to move the nation forward. Our MPs fuming over the years(not being heard). have cut deals with the executive for their ownselves rather than their consitituents, remember y3n ti3 obia. People, I am amazed at how the same elected people in opposition behave when they become the government on the same issues. We love ourselves NOT. We aspire to have all the good things of life and yet we refuse to take the road that will guarantee that; HARD WORK, discipline and accountability. Our civil service has been so politicized that they see nothing wrong as long as they get their share. We are a nation of church goers. We have been used to hearing the same sermon week after week to the point we have become immune to what the church says, or have our churches implied that all that we do is right as long as you have loads of money and pay your 10% bribe money to the church? 2015 has to be better. Let good people get involved in their local govt, churches, schools, etc and demand that the 66.66% is a better Norm than what we have today. We are in the majority but because we do not speak, the loud minority has assumed the role of the silent majority.Merry Christmas and a blessed and happy new year to yall.
