It is easy for us to focus on things we have lost, for their absence may cause us grief, stress, or suffering. However, the best strategy to avoid the loss is to try to prevent it in the first place, or to ensure we set other plans in motion to compensate for whatever it is we are losing. There really is no point in sitting idly by--we each have the option to get up and stoke the fire and possibly add a little fuel to it prior to it going out. We will lose things--relationships, jobs, money, material goods, peace of mind, prized possessions... and that is okay. It is not always pleasant, but that is simply how life works. It is very important for us to keep in mind that nothing is forever, not even the mountains that seem like they will never change. If we know that things will pass, then we can deal with the loss much easier when they do. We have all lost some very significant things in our lives--loved ones who have passed on, loss of our homes due to financial issues, loss of jobs, loss of health, and so much more. It is important to recognize that loss is a natural part of life, that there is no use in placing blame, finding fault, or living in the past. As I have been told as a child, There is no use crying over spilt milk; you must simply wipe it up and pour yourself a new glass. As we sit by the fireside, we can be fully aware of the way things are playing out and do our best to compensate for them. And when things happen, through acceptance, we can turn out attention to moving on. We cannot control what happens to us in life; but we can control how we deal with it. Todays Challenge: Find acceptance in your losses and look to moving forward.
