It is hard to condemn Hamas too harshly in their current war against Israel. But they actually get rungs of hell bonus points... First, they have purposefully put their own civilians lives in jeopardy (many scores have now died) not just as human shields, but as propaganda pawns. Second, the entire war is a sham--Hamas is almost broke, and they may even have lost Irans support. They cant continue the war for that long and they certainly cant defeat Israel or even inflict serious long- term harm (Im not minimizing the terror and damage they are inflicting now, but they simply cant prevail...) The whole thing is a cynical provocation intended to induce exactly Israels current response (invasion) solely for the purpose of fanning the anti-Semitic flames of wrath against Israel, around the world . Israel needs to wipe out Hamas and its facilities and collaborators. It clearly needs to re-occupy Gaza and should just annex it. (That should offer a sobering choice to West Bankers: be good, you can keep your territory; continue attacking us, we will wipe out your leadership and military, and annex you.) Israel is a country that abides rule of law, and with some caveats, should establish it in the territory. Anyone in that area would have a choice to accept civilized rule of law, or if they resist, must then be considered an objective threat and continued Hamas collaborator. I cannot see any alternative for Israel. I have suggested more extreme armed response but I just dont know that is actually feasible or desirable.
