It is hard to imagine that my Dad had just turned 23 when the first National Sand Bass Festival occurred in Madill. The Pates and Carrol Stafford and other established leaders in Madill welcomed Dad, and his ideas, and they all worked together to get the festival started. Mom and Dad were on the ground floor of several enduring institutions, including KMAD, the festival, Oakview Baptist Church, the relocation of Parkside Baptist Church, and Landmark Bank in Texas, not to mention their children and grandchildren. And I am sure I am leaving something out. For sure, he made countless loans to help people buy their first car, or their first home, or to start a small business. Mom and Dad have lived "Day One" many times, and more often than not, they have helped start something that has grown, endured, and still stands today. What a legacy!
