It is not even really mid August, but the arctic summer is visibly coming towards an end. It has been cold for a couple of days, small waters a few hundred meters above sea level are already frozen over. And it is still midnight sun time for more than 2 weeks! The polar willow is getting autumn colours. I can almost hear the leaves falling ;-) And at Alkefjellet, the famous Guillemot colony in Hinlopen Strait, many chicks are already sitting on the water, paired up with their fathers, ready to paddle the long way towards the seas around south Greenland. So while you are probably frying in desert-like temperatures, we are already getting a bit of a melancholic autumn feeling ... So much for now from me up here in Hinlopen Strait. Talk again soon - Rolf
