It is with great pride we submit to You the following article regarding our granddaughter Emma. The article was in a section of the Traverse City Record Eagle newspaper named student showcase. They reported on 82 students from 21 high schools. Emma was one of five students listed from Glen Lake High School. Emma Velis Parents: John Velis and Amy Johnson Velis Background: TACS High School Sailing Team, NHS, Student Council, Students For World Awareness, HEROS, Envirothon, Pals, National Merit Finalist. Volunteer work: Pals (mentored a younger student 10 hours, Envirothon, worked to get Glen Lake labeled a Michigan Green School-5 hours, Worked to prevent the spread of an invasive species on Glen Lake-20 hours, Worked to reestablish wildlife habitat around Lake Michigan-12 hours, Junior Counselor-Glen Lake Sixth Grade Camp -60 hours, Art In The Afternoon-25 hours, NHS-10 "This National Merit Finalist is true to herself and her values and is nothing short of a delight to know.
