It seemed like it was just a few weeks ago that almost no one could tell you what was meant by the term “common core state education standards.” No longer true. Case in point: the day-long Pennsylvania Education Summit slated for next Thursday (June 13) at the Harrisburg Hilton. Pre-registrations have soared to 175 people, meaning that it’s a virtual sellout before the doors are even opened. Attending will be business leaders, teachers, school superintendents, curriculum specialists, state lawmakers, cabinet members, workforce investment board members and other education stakeholders. Among the workshop topics: “Are Pennsylvania schools ready tor Common Core and Keystone Exams – a facilitated discussion.” Tackling the question will be Senate Education Chair Mike Folmer, Lewisburg Area Schools Supt. Mark DiRocco, PSEA VP Gerry Oleksiak, Association of Pennsylvania Intermediate Units ED Tom Gluck and State Board of Education Chair Larry Wittig. Sponsors for the event include Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children, the Pennsylvania Business Council Education Foundation and the Team Pennsylvania Foundation.
