It was on this date 4.54 billion years ago that the Earth was born, after 10 million years of labor, out of the suns protoplanetary accretion disk - which is why we celebrate Earth Day today! Well that and the fact that today is also Immanuel Kants 290th birthday and he was the guy who proposed the development of the solar system out of a collapsing nebula which inspired the current accretion model in the first place. Well, also the fact that college kids were the target for the first Earth Day in 1970 and April 22 was usually after spring break but before exams, with decent weather. But definitely NOT because April 22, 1970 was the 100th anniversary of Lenins birth, though that coincidence did convince some people that Earth Day was a secret Communist plot: “Subversive elements plan to make American children live in an environment that is good for them,” according to a speaker at a Daughters Of The American Revolution convention.
