Its Christmas time in the country... Today begins a new blessing In my family. I have been hunting the perfect ranch horse for Jake and our young church boys. Thanks to Shellea Pedersen we found him an amazing little horse called Dakota. I was looking for something as calm as what Jesus rode down the street on palm Sunday that would not be a runaway. I wanted something that he could learn on and from. I had my Papas old rope horse Streak... a Palamino Mare. I rode her until I needed a better horse and I got King the day Jeff Payne was born. A 3 year old stallion I trained that became my best cutting horse ever. I think about Joseph saddling his donkey for Mary to ride to Bethleham. And I remember Julio the donkey that Tyler owned. I will never forget pulling up watching Tyler.. Nathan Foyil ... Mike and Melissa Patrick Freeman and Josh Fogelman and Zack Fogelman bucking that thing out. I am sure Jake and all his boys will be much like Tyler and his friends as he loves and learns to care for his horse in much the same way I did. I had black and blues toes a few times from sneaking out barefooted to ride after watching Cowboy shows like Laredo and High Chapparall. Horses make cowboys and Cowboygirls and what a better time to put the 2 together than Christmas time. May God watch over my boys who learn on Dakota...may God bless this little gelding as he serves and does his job. May they spend years together riding the hills we love best.
