Sarah Arkin of Simply Perfect Weddings - New Zealand is here sharing her favorite part about being a wedding planner and what makes Queenstown the perfect place to get married! Q: What advice would you give to couples looking for a wedding planner in Queenstown? A: I think my best bit of advice would be to talk to a wedding planner as early as possible, even before you choose a venue or a wedding date if you can! Planners have an incredible array of knowledge and expertise when it comes to the local options available. Many people think that having a wedding planner is expensive and only for the rich and famous, however it can be completely the opposite. Most of our couples work within a budget and one of the main focuses of our job is to help them find a way to create their wedding vision while working within their budget. You may find you save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, just by having an initial consultation with a planner to get some advice and recommendations on the best venues and suppliers to suit your budget. Q: What planning services do you offer for couples in Queenstown? A: We offer a range of planning services from Kicsktart Consultations to our popular ‘day of’ coordination service, we like to think we offer something for everyone. Our full planning service allows clients to deal with just one point of contact throughout the whole planning process while our partial planning service keeps couples really involved in the planning throughout. We are all about making sure that our couples have the level of assistance they need to create the wedding day of their dreams, so we are always happy to tailor our services to suit as well. Q: After talking with potential clients do you suggest a certain planning package that would suit best suit their needs? A: Absolutely, we always discuss our client’s planning needs with them before they settle on a planning service with us. We are very open and honest with our couples and there are plenty of times when they come to us thinking they may need a certain level of service, but after chatting with them we discover they are actually happy to handle a bit more of the planning than they realised, so we may recommend a lower option. It is important to understand the level of planning assistance you are signing up for when deciding on a planner or a service, just like every other part of a wedding you want to try to avoid any extra fees down the track. Q: Due to the nature of Queenstown being a destination wedding location, do you find couples often visiting Queenstown for the first time on their wedding week? A: Yes and no. Queenstown is such an incredible destination wedding location that many of our couples are looking for any excuse to plan an extra holiday over here for ‘planning purposes’. Our clients that are based in Australia and around New Zealand are generally lucky enough to pop down for a visit or two before the wedding day to view venues and go through details for their wedding. However, many couples planning from further afield (UK, USA, Asia and Europe) don’t make it to Queenstown until the week of their wedding! Many couples have a connection to Queenstown from trips here previously or they may be kiwis currently living abroad, but for those lucky few that do arrive to Queenstown for the very first time for their wedding…well we know they are never disappointed with what they find on arrival! Q: What is your favorite thing about being a wedding planner? A: I suppose my favorite thing has to be that every day is different! We are so lucky to get to do something we LOVE and call it work, and we work with some of the loveliest couples around…so there isn’t much not to like. I think helping couples create their own individual wedding days is probably the best part. We see so many amazing trends and styles that come and go in this industry, but I think the best part of a wedding day is the ability to craft your personalities and tastes as a couple into a meaningful event for your friends and family. Helping couples turn their wedding vision into a reality is a really rewarding part of our job, and playing a part in one of the happiest days of people’s lives is certainly very special. Q: What makes Queenstown a perfect location for a wedding? A: Well the scenery here certainly speaks for itself and the amazing wedding photos do most of the hard work for us! What couples may not realise is that there is an incredibly talented community of wedding vendors and suppliers located here in our small town. We have world class venues, photographers, cake designers, florists, musicians and everything else you need to create your dream wedding day here. It is no small coincidence that we chose Queenstown as our base for our business, we can’t imagine anywhere in the world more perfect!
