In the age of industrialization and modernization, foreign investors and businessmen over the world pay great attention to Vietnam’s market for investing, which offers wider choices of employment for local people. As a result, big cities in Vietnam, including Hanoi, have been witnessing the high number of suburban workers flocking here, followed by an increase of means of transport to serve the demand for living and production while infrastructures are not good. These factors are reasons result in the issue of traffic jams which is a serious concern in Vietnam. At rush hour, a large number of vehicles crowding to main streets, causing to traffic congestion for hours and a huge amount of fumes released into the air. People feel uncomfortable while standing hours under hot weather, which affects working effectively. Traffic congestion causes to serious consequences and is a headache problem for authorized agencies. Governments give policies to resolve this issue by building new infrastructures and setting a limit on the number of vehicles coming to big cities as well as the high rate of immigrants Questions for discussion: 1. How do you feel when you travel on roads in Hanoi at rush hour? What do you think about traffic in Hanoi? 2. What are causes and effects of traffic jams?
