Its a sad day for Cricket. It is certainly a terrible moment to see a fine young man succumb to death of a sporting injury. Over the years, there has been a lot of changes to the game. Technology has been really supportive - hot spot, snicko, flashing bails, umpire cam, spider cam and all that. Also, we made shorter boundaries, hard-hitting format, restricted fielding - all thats gone in favor of a batsman. All said, there is still a margin of fatal injury for the batsman, why? While we can argue about improvising the protective gear why not think about changing the ball material to a less hard, less fatal thing.. Perhaps a synthetic substance.. May sound improbable but definitely a food for thought. RIP Phil Hughes. Our prayers.
