Its about 1:30 AM on 3/20. Been watching the news about floating debris off the coast of Australia. CNNs caption across the bottom of the screen is something like: OBJECTS RELATING TO FLIGHT 370 POSSIBLY FOUND. Possible found? Actually, they objects have definitely been found. The adverb POSSIBLY really qualifies the adjective related to. They meant: OBJECTS POSSIBLY RELATED TO FLIGHT 370 FOUND. On the other hand, another caption ended with: . . . COULD NOT BE RELATED to flight 370. If they could not (possibly) be related, why mention them? Oh, I see, they really meant COULD BE UNRELATED. Come on Anderson, your writers and producers are pros. They make the big bucks. Send out for a class in remedial writing!
