Its been a busy week! On Tuesday, Mona Foundation board member, Rita Egrari, hosted a screening of the 10x10 - Girl Rising film in Bellevue, WA. Rita talked about girls education and how 31 million girls are out of primary school and more than 34 million are out of lower secondary school. She also talked about the profound impact of a girls education – from her own health to her families to the economic impact and to the impact on her self esteem and self worth and how she is viewed by others. Each of the nine girls featured in the film has significant barriers but an unquenchable fire for getting an education. After watching a shortened version of the film, the group of almost 50 (from various organizations, to city officials, to school district officials, to community members) spent the final 45 min in small group discussions sharing reactions to the film and personal stories on education. This is a groundbreaking film that brings such important issues to light and we encourage everyone to watch it! #ISupportEducation
