Its hard for me to post this ~ but fact is ~ Akbash, and other Livestock Guardian Dogs ( LGDs ) should NOT attack humans. :/ these dogs are very powerful, very agile, and very affectionate. When I first got them I was told not to interfere, not to handle them too much, in order for them to be effective, and bonded to the stock. About a month after I got them, I realized how much they loved affection, how proud they got each morning when the stock was alive and safe. They deserved affection and respect. And besides, what on earth would I do if one of them ever got injured by a predator ~ if they were completely wild and unhandled? SHOOT THEM, thats what! If they had no interaction with humans, they would never trust humans when injured or ill. I love my Akbash boys! Every day they put their lives on the line, for a bowl of food and a family of ungulates. Truly one of the most remarkable things I have ever experienced ~ but just like any breed ~ it isnt the breed, rather the person who owns it. Just like a pitbull raised by a jackass for pit fighting, vs, a family raising a loving pitbull in a family ~ and every other breed on the planet that has ever been raised by a jackass. Dont blame the breed!
