Its new member adding time again! Let the hazing...I mean welcoming...begin! Barbara Fletcher has been a photographer for 40 years and has some fantastic Zoo images on her Flickr photostream to prove it (https://flickr/photos/pbfletch/sets/72157627946750545/). Needless to say I started following her right away. (On Flickr, not in public. That would be creepy.) Russell Johnston told me that he loves going to the Zoo to relax and take photographs of the animals. Im pretty sure that most of can say the same thing. Only using our own names. Hes posted some great images here on Facebook. Winand Hess is a photographer, a biologist, a past Trustee Circle member of the Zoo, has been written about in the U-T San Diego for his docent knowledge of the Tijuana River Estuary (utsandiego/news/2013/aug/16/birds-tijuana-river-reserve/), and now has reached his career pinnacle by being able to add Focus member to his lifes resumé. Cyn Reynolds is a wonderful animal photographer and an obvious animal lover as well, being the owner of Scratch and Sniff Pet Care (scratchandsniffpetcare/). I think Penny may have just found some new play date friends for Abigail. I had been chatting online for a while with Janet Lawhon before I suddenly realized that I had already met and spoken with her in person. She is lead keeper in the Safari Parks Heart of Africa and worked the interpretive wall with Delta for us at the media preview of Tiger Trail. Then I chatted with her again a few days later, again at the exhibit. Janet really knows her tigers and Im very excited that shes asked to join. Back in April of last year I had a chance to chat with senior keeper Hali-Eden OConnor about the passing of Houdini, then one of the Zoos two Andean bears. It was a very heartfelt and I know difficult subject for her, but she politely took her time answering questions and telling me anecdotes. I never forgot that chat and Im truly glad that shes asked to join our group. Senior (Zoo) bird keeper Chuck Border will be a very welcome addition to the group if for no other reason than because he takes pictures! And really good ones, too! Plus we have a lot of bird photo posters in the group, so yay for ID help! Erin Tessier works Backstage Pass and the tours at the Zoo and found us through our posted photos that Maureen and Lorena have been sharing. I cant believe we havent met yet. That will now be changing very soon. (Thanks for spreading the word, Maureen and Lorena!) Nerissa Foland is a primate keeper at the Zoo (how cool!), is a self described iPhonographer (I like her already), and wears a cool mustache on her finger for profile pics (awesomeness). Nerissas addition now makes me wonder if Im the primate keeper for this group. Hmm. Enrichments anyone? I wanted to add Courtney Cook, an educator guide at the Safari Park, just for her amazing picture with Nola alone. But being an educator to help people like me tell the difference between Masai versus reticulated giraffes will be a huge bonus. And she makes a mean Rule 63 Han Solo. (That will mean a lot to certain people.) Cynthia Vickers is a Senior Admission Clerk at the Zoo as well as friends with Maureen (but then who isnt, am I right?). Maybe I should let her take over new admissions to the group! (Just kidding, Cynthia. Relax and enjoy your stay here.) Thank you all for asking to join our group! I look forward to seeing what you can share, and reading what you can comment.
