Its nothing less than a tragedy when something happens to a wonderful person. We often ask each other questions like Why do these horrible things happen to such good people and Why did this have to happen, but we dont get any answers. And we have to let the consequence of whatever happened hit us like a truck. Theres no avoiding the pain that follows a tragedy. Earlier today, I wished there was something that could make everything all better, because I was looking for a way to escape feeling any sadness and grief, knowing the entire time that escaping the fallout wasnt a possibility. So, I did the only things I felt I could do. I talked to friends. I read peoples comments and posts. I let myself feel the pain I knew I couldnt avoid. It didnt take me long to realize that everyone shares the same feelings about him, everyone knows just how special of a person he is. Its quite amazing, really. In a small home town like ours, everybody knows eachothers business, and there are usually differing opinions as far as how good a person is perceived to be, but I didnt see that today. Ive never experienced so many different people who have all communicated the same exact opinion of one person. It brought me some happiness that I was grateful for. It shows that we know true kindness when we see it, it shows that even the smallest good deed, even a smile, does not go unnoticed, and it shows that there really are people out there who brighten the lives of others just by being there. Our world is darker today. It doesnt matter if you were very close with him, saw him occasionally, or only met him once, because we all know what a wonderful person the world has lost. Every person he touched with his kindness is going through this together. Kevin, you will be sorely missed by everyone. You will forever be in our hearts.
