It’s one thing to sit back and watch Susie’s adventures, to see her post pictures on FB or Instagram (Susie approved pics of course), but it’s something completely different to be part of those adventures with her. I knew that any time spent with Susie meant memories would be made but I never realized how precious those memories would be to me until the chance to make more was taken away. To share a few of my favorites… Babe’s pizza when she called over a boy to tell him I thought he was cute, (which I never said), only to find out he went to my school, had homeroom across the hall, and I would have to see him every day after. Being washed up on the beach in Hawaii after we ignored the warnings about strong waves. The trip to NYC for a pet fashion show (seriously, animals walked the runway) and laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe as Sara stole a bicycle taxi with the “driver” in the back and went all the way around the block. Lying on the office floor as I freaked out about a surprise positive pregnancy test as she and Evelyn told me everything would be ok. She and Mike opening up their home for our wedding and still going above and beyond to make it special (even if the groom was beyond sick). I am so very thankful for spending this past 4th of July at Long Boat Key and making spaghetti together in a kitchen that was not equipped for such a task. And, for the millionth time, telling me “Chin up, everything is going to be OK”. “Aunt” doesn’t even begin to describe who she is to me. She’s my inspiration, my personal cheerleader, and my real life rock star. She has forever been a part of my life and never could I have imagined that she wouldn’t be here for the rest. I am so devastated that this adventure had to be cut so short.
