Ive been living my tech life comfortably in the Linux world for some years now so I didnt really get to extensively use any Windows version above XP. But today, I tried to use Windows 8 do some actual work and I got the shock of my life. Microsoft made its most visually appealing version of Windows the least usable of them all. Its as if the OS is solely designed by visual designers with zero input from Engineers. I am surprised that Microsoft didnt realize that the Start menu is part of the signature of Windows. Windows with no start menu is no Windows. Then you have these Metro apps that will fill the screen and have no close button. I had to google how to close a Metro app and the solution is like an attack on usability. Microsoft is trying to force its customers to use a mobile OS on desktop computers. I want to go on ranting about how stupid Windows 8 is but Id rather just shut down and go back to my Linux system.
