Ive seen the vocals of this masterful rural south blues song - TopicsExpress

Ive seen the vocals of this masterful rural south blues song attributed to both Geeshie Wiley & Elvie (L.V.) Thomas.. ?? It isnt because the historians dont actually know, in fact It is the hauntingly beautiful vocal of Elvie Thomas on Motherless Child Blues that reveals one of the rural Souths greatest female blues singers and musicians - a powerful poignancy among the most sublime in American music. Equalling the vocal with exquisite force and imagination is the guitar arrangement in the key of E, probably played by Geeshie Wiley. This shows traces of a northern Mississippi influence, but the B7th section is without parallel in rural blues. The information is scant, at best, about these two amazing women, and virtually nothing about Geeshie, in particular.
