I’ve just finished reading Michael Lewis excellent read, “Boomerang”, which is a travelogue of sorts of financial collapse tourism. He visits Iceland, Greece, Germany, California and shares many amusing instructive anecdotes with us regarding the present day state of human folly. And I have to admit it. Our Tea Party right wingers do have a point in pointing their fingers at Greece and saying that could be us down the road a ways. What a thoroughly corrupt society from top to bottom and the real miracle is why it took this long for it all to catch up with them. I would be so all over joining up with the Tea Party if they were anywhere within one galaxy of about reforms with respect to this state of corruption. But sadly, they’re not. All they’re about as nearly as I can tell is they want to be disconnected from responsibility. They just don’t want any responsibility for anything. They just don’t want to pay the freight for their share of the cleanup. They want to retreat into a fool’s paradise of “Government is the problem” to which the implied solution they don’t have the guts to come right out and say is “Anarchy is the solution.” All the Tea Party likes to do is point their fingers at others’ corruption and self-indulgence as they themselves sit down to feast upon the greatest chocolate cake in all of human history which is the vast remaining reserves fossil carbon in the ground below our feets just waiting to be liberated into our atmosphere. Here is your real deficit spending to be laid at the feet of grandchildren. From Boomerang: “It’s hard to think about the future when there’s a chocolate cake sitting there in front of you.”
