JDS on High – Artist in Residence JDS guests now have the opportunity to take home a very special ‘keepsake’. Ararat is often regarded as the ‘gateway’ to the Grampians, so I introduce to you our ‘Award Winning’ Grampians artist Grantley Kent Thomas, who has released prints for you from his original oil paintings of the Grampians. About the Artist Grantley Kent Thomas was born a twin in Adelaide on 13th October 1955. He settled in Victoria in 1991 and he has since become a well-established artist whose oil paintings particularly capture the essence of the rugged mountainous heights, distinctive colours, expanse and the breathtaking beauty of the Grampians National Park near where he lives in Western Victoria, Australia. He is also known for his large canvases depicting Endangered Species and his use of metal leaf on many originals works are now a part of his signature style. He and his wife Helen received formal acknowledgement for their significant support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Australia for the release of the artists’ hand-painted limited edition of infertile Ostrich and Emu eggs known as the Wishbringer Collection which raised many thousands of dollars for the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Grant’s works have been sought after by investors and private collectors, including the Sultan of Brunei, in over 15 countries throughout the World. In 1995 the Hon. Paul Keating, as Prime Minister of Australia, acknowledged a major work, oil on canvas, for the depiction of an Australian ‘Waltzing Matilda’ scene. He is an award winning artist, having won ‘Best in Shows’ in Regional Victoria and he is a regular exhibitor at the Moco Art Gallery in Halls Gap, Victoria.
