Curriculum Development Officer, Uganda Initiative for Integrated Management of Non-Communicable Diseases (G06-USA) Curriculum Development Officer at Uganda Initiative for Integrated Management of Non-Communicable Diseases (G06-USA) About the Global Health Corps Fellowship: Global Health Corps is a one-year paid fellowship that pairs young professionals with organizations (fellowship placement organizations) that require new thinking and innovative solutions. We believe that great ideas dont change the world, great PEOPLE do! The fellowship begins in July 2015 and extends through August 2016. Fellows engage in professional development training, mentorship and thoughtful community-building, and continue to draw upon their fellowship experience and the GHC alumni network as they build careers of lasting impact. Fellows are placed in organizations in pairs – one international fellow and one local fellow from the placement country – creating a fellowship team that is a central part of the fellowship experience. About the Fellowship Placement Organization: The Uganda Initiative for Integrated Management of Non-Communicable Diseases (UINCD) is a multi-sector collaboration based in Kampala, Uganda focused on building capacity in the realms of prevention, care, training, and research to enable the provision of effective and integrated management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The core leadership team of UINCD is comprised of experienced leaders from academia (Uganda and Yale University), Mulago National Referral Hospital administration, and the Ministry of Health (MoH). Established in 2013, UINCD has been focused on piloting programs and interventions at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala. UINCD has developed training curricula on NCDs for nurses and doctors and recently completed a study addressing early screening and detection of NCDs at Mulagos outpatient center. UINCDs next main project will be a nationwide needs assessment of healthcare workers about NCDs. UINCDs key objectives include: Assess existing healthcare workers training needs and to develop NCD management and patient education curricula that are targeted and relevant to different cadres of healthcare workers Develop and test models of integrated NCD prevention and care Leverage existing HIV infrastructure for the integration of NCD training and service delivery UINCD places a great emphasis on studying the effectiveness of all its activities and disseminating its processes and findings. Fellowship Position Overview: The Curriculum Development Officer will work under the direct supervision of UINCDs Project Manager. The fellow will work closely with the principal investigators of healthcare workers knowledge and attitude of NCDs study and will add important value to the project. Responsibilities: Help coordinate the activities of a nationwide study of healthcare workers knowledge of and attitudes toward NCDs Assist with focus groups and key informant interviews with healthcare workers Assist with development of a survey for healthcare workers to assess knowledge and attitudes of NCDs Apply outcomes from this study to the refining and updating of UINCDs Integrated Approach to NCDs Training Curriculum Work closely with Ugandan NCD stakeholders to ensure these curricula are locally relevant and appropriate for each cadre of healthcare workers Participate in the day-to-day activities of UINCD and liaise regularly with the Project Manager, Co-Directors, and Board of Governors Required Skills and Experience: Flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm Excellent communication and partnership skills Highly organized with a good sense of judgment Trustworthy and dependable Ability to work in a team environment, but with self-sufficiency and self-motivation Preferred Skills and Experience: Experience in qualitative research and/or curriculum development Fellows receive the following benefits: Monthly living stipend Housing Utilities stipend Health insurance A professional development grant of $600 A completion award of $1500 An advising program that pairs each fellow with an advisor in his/her area of work or interest A two-week Training Institute at Yale University in the United States to begin the fellowship A five-day End-of-Year retreat in East Africa to finish the fellowship Three multi-day trainings during the year Travel to and from placement site, all trainings, and retreats Professional development and personal support from a dedicated in-country program manager Personal development and accompaniment program led by Still Harbor Apply at http:ghcorps.org/fellows/apply/.
