JOB DESCRIPTION Position: TRACTOR TRAILER TECHNICIAN II – VARIOUS SHIFTS Hiring Manager: Maintenance Supervisor Location: Corporate Office – Jeffersontown, KY Payroll Status: Non-exempt Department: Maintenance Date: January 19, 2012 Primary Function: Diagnose, adjust and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment including but not limited to the following: electrical, brake and cooling systems, transmission and clutches, starter and alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, power steering systems, and Qualcomm systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance. • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order. • Maintain work area appearance and safety. • Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner. • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges and precision test instruments, as well a power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks and hoists. • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment. • Inspect brake and steering systems, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper working condition. • Raise trucks and trailers using hydraulic jacks. • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment such as hand held computers, engine analyzers, laptop, chassis or electrical charts and pressure gauges. • Other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor. Job Specifications Skill Factors: • Education: High School diploma or GED required. Vocational/Technical maintenance certification preferred. • Experience: minimum of 3 years practical experience with tractor/trailer maintenance required. • Proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools required. • Communication: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. • Office Automation: Proficient in telephone. Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance system. • Licensing: A current, valid driver’s license is required. Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred or willingness to acquire CDL if you do not have one. Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. • Frequently lift and/or move 50 lbs. • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: • Close vision • Distance vision • Peripheral vision • Depth perception • The ability to adjust focus While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The associate is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Health/Safety Hazards: May encounter any hazard associated with mechanical maintenance shop environments. Safety Equipment Required: Must wear required personal protection equipment associated with specific work environment and job duties.
