JOY Climbing Mt. Whitney left me speechless for many reasons... the raw beauty, thundering waterfalls, swimming in clear, ice cold Mirror Lake, meeting a doe mid leap...but the most unexpected encountered was JOY. 80 years old, tin cups dangling from her heavy pack. She had been hiking for 12 days, alone on Mt Whitney. She stopped as we came upon one another on the trail and asked us where we were headed, as we spoke, she explained, shed taken care of her sick husband and after he graduated, she decided to take this journey. She said no regrets. She had the spirit of an Angel, the smile of teen and as she spoke my heart melted and tears streamed. I love strong, courageous women. I will live with Joy in my heart forever.
