Jab Desh mein thi Deewali, woh khel rahe the Holi ..... Is it - TopicsExpress

Jab Desh mein thi Deewali, woh khel rahe the Holi ..... Is it some coincidence that Diwali this year is in Oct, while it was so in 1962. The war broke out on 20 Oct. A hopelessly armed and equipped Indian Army was ordered to fight last man last round. They did !! The war was a disaster. Terribly outnumbered, cut off, surrounded by the Chinese, the Indian Army contingents in penny packets were to set some very high standards of bravery and steadfastness in the face of fearful odds. In the words of veteran Mandeep Singh Bajwa Sir, “Todays also a day to remember the men of the posts thrown forward in Ladakh to implement the forward policy. An ill-conceived political policy in the absence of communication links, reserves to reinforce them or act in fire-fighting roles or artillery and air support these penny-packets were told on the direct orders of the Army Chief to fight to the last man and the last bullet. Abandoned, out-numbered, cut off and surrounded many of them did just that. My homage to the men of 5 Jat, 1/8 GR, 7 and 14 J&K Milita (now Ladakh Scouts) and others who stood their ground and did not shame their nation and their regiments by withdrawing against orders.” To my mind . the heroes of 1962, - Maj Shaitan Singh , PVC( 13 Kumaon), Maj Dhan Singh Thapa, PVC, Capt Mahavir Prasad , MVC, Sub Joginder Singh, PVC ( 1 SIKH) and so many others set precedents that were to become the élan of Indian Army in years to follow. Even if the war was a disaster, we learnt what it meant by fighting till ‘last man last round’ – am not sure if any other Army in the world practices this. In 1962, Diwali fell on 28 Oct, when all these heroes were battling it out for us. Jab desh mein thi diwali, wo khel rahe the holi ...... So let us remember and pay homage to our heroes of 1962 and celebrate Diwali !! We owe it to them. https://youtube/watch?v=sdyPozsx_6M Preface por favor Sp Sharma
