Jan 1 2015 2:45PM -- NWS La Crosse, WI -- A complex winter storm system is taking aim at the region for the upcoming weekend. Snow will develop on Saturday, and will then expand to overspread much of the area by Saturday night. By the time snow ends early Sunday, 3 to 5 inches of new accumulation is anticipated from eastern Iowa up into the southeast half of Wisconsin. Lesser amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected further to the north and west. As the storm system departs, bitterly cold air will surge in behind it. Temperatures will be steady or slowly falling through the day on Sunday, falling well below zero Sunday night. Brisk northwest winds will combine with these cold temperatures to send wind chills to between -15 and -40. Those with any outdoor plans this weekend will want to pay close attention to the weather.
