January 23, 2015 Full/Part-time: Fulltime Employer/Location: Lafarge Canada Inc Fort St John, BC Job Title: Cement Terminal Operator Starting Date: ASAP Wages: Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Post secondary, trades, education a definite asset. Logistics experience or education an asset. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Operations experience, demonstrating: Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to operate equipment. Excellent communication skills. Good telephone and interpersonal skills, pleasant and positive working attitude with customers, employees and the public. Experience in construction materials industry is an asset. Ability to work flexible shifts and some weekends. Proven self-starter, reliable. Physical ability to work at heights, confined space enclosures, and perform cement loading and unloading functions. Must have full range of mobility in upper and lower body. Must be able to work in several positions, including but not limited to: stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time. Be able to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout workday. Ability to operate equipment, including mobile equipment. Proven ability to work in a team environment. Able to perform clerical tasks in a neat and accurate manner. Mathematical aptitude. Knowledge of office equipment and basic computer skills. Awareness of environment / safety / quality / transport rules and regulations. Strong knowledge of material handling processes and equipment. Valid Drivers License and clean driving record. Duties: The positions prime objective is to support all phases of the terminal operations in a safe, efficient, reliable, economical manner and ensure quality and environmental standards are maintained. The position requires the hands-on operation of all terminal equipment, developing a familiarity with bulk truck and bulk rail car operations, and the administration of terminal reporting functions. Primary Job Responsibilities: Ship & receive bulk cement, truck, & rail; Ensure attention to detail, accurate data entry & customer service; Equipment maintenance such as compressors, pumps, dust collectors, & valves; Mobile equipment operation; Housekeeping and other duties as assigned; All duties performed with emphasis on Lafarge�s safety procedures and policies. Specific Accountabilities: Comply with all company safety rules and performs all duties in a safe and approved manner. Comply with all known Local, Provincial and Federal Laws and Regulations. Load bulk unit trucks correctly, providing legal weights and proper product for customer delivery and/or pick-up. Perform routine maintenance on all terminal property and equipment. Maintain the terminal in a clean and presentable state. Perform clerical functions following the established guidelines for the recording of receipts, shipments and inventory records. Refer to the Terminal Manager, sales person or District Sales Manager all customer complaints. Assists at other locations as required. Responsible for unloading railcards, transferring of product into proper silos, samples and testing of products received and/or shipped. Assist with training of new employees. Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of all terminal equipment, including mobile equipment, crane operation and rigging. Ability to stand long periods, sitting, bending, twisting and climbing many consecutive flights of stairs. Ability to move at heights, in enclosed or confined spaces, near water, work around moving equipment and machinery and physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to wear a respirator, a full body harness, and other required personal protective equipment. Must be courteous, professional, safe, and have a positive attitude while working with customers, employees and the general public. Must be able to work in a team environment. Must be able to recognize and correct deficiencies, maintain high quality standards and work without supervision. Good telephone and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing with employees, customers, sales personnel, trucking firms and suppliers.
