January 6, 1958: Gibson Guitars launches their Flying V electric guitar. The guitar was not popular and was discontinued by Gibson in 1959. But some artists did like it; Blues-rock guitarist Lonnie Mack and blues guitarist Albert King started using the guitar almost immediately. In the mid-60s Dave Davies and Jimi Hendrix also started using a Flying V and the guitar gained in popularity. The company started re-issuing the guitar in 1967. https://youtube/watch?v=VLs09J_x6-c
