January 6, 1958: Gibson Guitars launches their Flying V electric guitar. The guitar was not popular and was discontinued by Gibson in 1959. But some artists did like it; Blues-rock guitarist Lonnie Mack and blues guitarist Albert King started using the guitar almost immediately.
