Jason Virdin (Parent): If you’ve paid any attention to what’s going on in JeffCo this week, you know that Julie Williams (JeffCo BoE member) is attempting to put together a curriculum review committee. According to Julie Williams, AP U.S. History should promote patriotism, the essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority, respect for individual rights, and should “present positive aspect of the United States and its heritage.” She also thinks that the material should not encourage or condone civil disorder social strife. So why does this matter? The BoE is set to discuss curriculum at the next work session (no public comment) on 10/7. Judi Reynolds and Julie Williams have a lot in common when it comes to their AP U.S. History. The link below shows a FB post that Judi Reynolds made on 8/8. It is imperative that DougCo residents pay attention to what BoE does with regard to curriculum. Dont let the BoE censor AP U.S. History in our classrooms.
