Jester Nation Distances & Destinations # 108 - 1/17/15-1/18/15 Please share with us your race plans for this weekend. From 1 mile to 100 miles and beyond, every distance counts. And if youre volunteering - that counts too! I advise you to say your dream is possible and then overcome all inconveniences, ignore all the hassles and take a running leap through the hoop, even if it is in flames. Les Brown “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” Theodore Roosevelt Press on - nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone has unlimited potential. Calvin Coolidge ---------------------------------------------------------- Two events on tap for the Jester for this weekend. Tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Ill be joining Kara Lubin & Darren Van Soye at the 100 Mile Club headquarters in Norco to help welcome in the Race Across USA and Race Across CA runners as they finish the 2nd marathon on their 140 day journey of nearly 5,000 kilometers from the West Coast to the East Coast. Come join us as we send these intrepid adventurers on their merry way. 100mileclub/event/rausameetup/?instance_id=11657 raceacrossusa.org/ After that Ill head down to the expo of the Carlsbad Marathon for packet pick-up. Should be there somewhere between 3-5 p.m., so if youre there during that time, please find me - although its rather hard to find me, as I blend into a crowd. Its like finding Waldo. If you do, Ill have a hug waiting for you. Sunday, Ill be at the Carlsbad Marathon. Its been more than a year since Ive done a marathon - Im such a slacker. Cant wait to get back to Jester cheering. For those of you that arent familiar with Jester cheering at a half or full marathon, heres how it works. Ill be stationed .2 miles down the course from the start line. When the starter gun goes off, Ill cheer and cowbell (that is a verb, right?) with my silly signs until the last marathoner passes me. Then Ill run back to the start, cross the timing mat, run the marathon - cheering and cowbelling (Its a word! Look it up!) to the finish. As soon as I cross the timing mat, Ill go back to the 26.0 marker and cheer for all the incoming half and full marathoners. When the last one comes in, Ill escort them to the finish line, and collect my finishers medal. This way, Im the last to start, and the last to finish. You may think all that time out on the course sounds like a big sacrifice on my part, but trust me, the experience is so inexplicably rewarding, that I cant wait to do it again, and cant get enough of it. So if youre doing the Carlsbad half or full marathon on Sunday, please come by and give me a hug, and Ill in turn pass on the love with sweaty Jester hugs to the others coming in. If you finish your half in under 2:30, or full in under 4:00, youll likely miss me on your way in, but come say aloha on your way out. And if youre coming to spectate, bring a cowbell (Ill bring extra jester hats) and join me. Ill be right outside the Souplantation. ---------------------------------------------------------- Please be mindful that today and every day in America, 30 people will die while waiting for an organ transplant. Dont let your organs become worm food! Recycle yourself! Register at DonateLife.Net/register-now. On behalf of the over 123,000 Americans currently waiting for an organ transplant, thank you for registering. Please pass it on. -------------------------------------------------------- Wherever your feet might take you this weekend, have fun, stay warm & dry (or cool), dig deep, finish on empty, and continue to push Beyond Limits! Jester love & hugs to all. Dream the impossible! Dream it. Plan it. Do it! Zero Limits! Keep Calm . . . . . . Run Strong . . . . . . . . . . Jester On . . .
