Jim Bob Duggar on Anti-19 Kids and Counting Campaign: Thanks For the Attention, Haters! Last month, a petition to have 19 Kids and Counting canceled made the rounds online, eventually amassing more than 180,000 signatures. The Duggars responded with a counter-petition to save the show, but in all likelihood, their efforts were unnecessary, as 19 Kids remains TLCs most popular series, and was probably never in any danger of being canceled. So perhaps Duggar patriarch Jim Bob cant be blamed for doing a victory lap, but many have complained that his online gloating is in poor taste, and suggests a callous insensitivity toward the groups that he initially offended. In an interview with Christian website The Pathway, Jim Bob addressed the efforts to have his show removed from the airwaves shortly after the petition began to circulate: All it has done is give us more exposure, Jim Bob said. We gained 50,000 Facebook fans last week. God is expanding our borders through the national media. Of course, the whole dust-up provided a passed-up opportunity for Jim Bob to clarify his familys stance on LGBT rights and defend himself against accusations of bigotry, so its a bit puzzling that Jim Bob chose instead to do a verbal touchdown dance. Anyway, if popularity is the goal, Jim Bob and company certainly have reason to celebrate. After nine seasons, the show that made them famous is receiving higher ratings than ever, and the Duggar family is poised to reach an even larger audience in 2015.
