Jimmye Lynn Dye-Porter gave me the #10 to list random things you many not know about me.....so here goes: 1. I was Valedictorian of my sixth grade class. My best friend, Jennette Robbins, was Salutatorian. Graduation saw Jennette as Valedictorian and me as Salutatorian. 2. In 1968 I traveled to more places in six months than I had in my entire life: Senior trip to New Orleans.....4-H Club Citizenship Short Course in Washington, D.C., and National 4-H Club convention as an Arkansas state winner in Chicago....at the Conrad Hilton Hotel.....plus a trip to New Mexico to take care of my niece and nephew while my sister had surgery! 3. I have two sisters.....my oldest sister is 16 years older than me. My middle sister is 9 years older than me. 4. I went to Arkansas Tech for the first two years of my college life....then married John Heath.....and took 12 years off....going back to college in 1982 to finish in 1986 at Arkansas State University. 5. I have been a Tupperware Lady.....a World Book Encyclopedia salesperson.......a legal secretary.....and a bookkeeper at a tractor shop. 6. My first choice for a college major was Music. That didnt happen. Majored in Business Education ...., but music is part of my life....as I direct my small church choir at McCrory United Methodist Church. 7. I really didnt like picking peas....shelling peas.....digging potatoes.....helping with the canning......when I was growing up. Then I married John Heath and he loves gardening....thus....I have learned to love canning.....preserving......freezing veggies....and we enjoy the fruits of our labor! 8. My friend, Jennette Dawson Robbins, and I put together a song and dance routine for Share the Fun at Yell County 4-H County Day in 1965. We were practicing so that we could take them by storm the next year. Made our top hats from cardboard.....our canes were broom handles (cut to the right size) and spray painted black.....wore white shorts....white shirts....black bow tie.....and a black homemade jacket that looked somewhat like what Abraham Lincoln would have worn. Jennettes mother played the piano for us as we sang TEAMWORK......and we won.....then we went to Barton Coliseum in Little Rock to the state day and won that too...... Winning that eliminated us from future contests! 9. I was an army wife for two years.....we lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, where John was stationed at Ft. Sill. Thankfully we spent two years there and the Vietnam War didnt call on him. However, he joined the Arkansas National Guard, so I remained a military wife throughout his career until he retired as Lt. Colonel John Heath. 10. I worked with the youth at McCrory United Methodist Church for over 13 years. During that time we made fun trips to the Smokey Mountains, two trips to Dallas, Texas......Washington, D.C.........the Bahamas....and Mission Trips to New Mexico (via Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, then Texas), South Dakota( which included traveling through at least 7 states including into Canada), St. Louis (Shrine Hospital). We worked hard to raise money for these trips which included bake sales where Jimmye Porter made several good pies!
