Johann Sebastian Bach was originally buried at Old St. Johns Cemetery in Leipzig, But his grave went unmarked for nearly 150 years. In 1894 his coffin was finally found and moved to a vault in St. Johns Church, but this building was destroyed by Allied bombing during World War II, so in 1950 Bachs remains were taken to their present grave at Leipzigs Church of St. Thomas.
