Josh and I both have traits, both now and as kids (we both had significant issues at school and received specialized education and therapy) We both have severe sensory issues, obsessive tendencies, special interests, anxiety problems, TICs and compulsive behaviors, and problems with social skills. I was diagnosed with a multitude of issues and so was he. We were both social misfits, quirky and uncomfortable with the typical teen social world. At the time we met we thought we were perfect for each other because we had those similarities, but we NEVER knew that it would pretty much mean that ANY kid we had together would have some kind of issues. Think about it, 50 % come from mom and 50% from dad and BOTH parents have these issues ( we wont even get into OUR parents).. there is NO WAY the kid is going to come out without them. I dont think this is is only applicable to Autism, its applicable to other disorders as well. Autumn has not escaped her genes and its becoming more and more obvious as she gets older. I would love to have more kids but I really and truly feel like any child I have will be almost certain to have developmental/neurological/mental health issues so I just cant take a chance on having more. :/ In cases where both parents had mildly elevated scores on the survey, researchers found that they were 85 percent more likely to have a child with autism. If just one parent scored high, there was a 53 percent increased chance of the developmental disorder occurring in their son or daughter.
