July 25 - quarter to 8 and maybe 6 - 7 people in the bar, no rush. The boys are setting-up or, Robbies setting-up while Dave checks his new bass. Its a thing of beauty Dave but leave it alone! A few wandering in, Michael Mac huge smile, been missing for a while, Malcolm Ellis and Mark. not been so regular lately either. Meanwhile Daves been working on the board. Right on top, Margie Russell - itll be a goodn. Lights down and theres Margie with a big welcome for everyone then into it. A few tunes solo to warm us up as more and more fill the room. Harp man Robert was first up, presenting some cool songs. This is a return bout for Robert who was here a month or so ago. Love the harp and I think he could team with one or two others in a bit of blues or something. Get more action. First-timer Maria, fancy Cole Clark, never been amped before (does it need a battery?), but . . . . . fantastic. I got a funny look from Chris Mac - Id suggested that Maria must have nicked my play list, Shes doing all my songs. Well I really like I Will Survive and what a great version! See ya soon Maria. SA Michael, done up like an Arctic lumberjack (think Michael Palin) did have to take off a layer or two to get near his guitar. He survived! A couple of casuals including Cocaine was the ideal fix for Michael. Margie and Elizabeth - Sister Act featured tight harmonies and shared lead vocals from the girls. Always a treat and evident that they enjoy it as much as we do. We saw our Kim joined by Elise through a tune or 2 then also by Margie when the urge was too great. Always entertaining, does it week after week after week. Legend Kim. Having a full program once again meant that there were a few along who didnt get a gig. Its terrific to see others give a little so that those can be squeezed in for a little mic time. Better than nothing since, mostly, we just wanna play. David was such a squeezy. He popped up for a quick acapella Jackson Browne? then back into the audience. Michael Mac was up for a set and didnt disappoint. Mostly original tunes, some smart guitar and strong vocals ensure a good response every time for Michael. Howard opened this week with a touching solo number before ramping it up a bit. Managing a full Hurricane to thunderous applause once again was likely a highlight, but its tough, Howies are all good. We were joined by new friend xxxx who was keen to do an Elvis number. Howard accompanied him on guitar (I was useless) and for an impromptu, it was pretty good, come on back yhear. Local Currency were next and with the boys assisting, treated us to an assortment of Local classics featuring the sax of Julie. Jac was primed with a new play list, Graeme bass shanghaied as a last minute sub, Robbie, Trev and I: hey, we went off! A bunch of new stuff, barely known, a new line-up, Jac in a tizz - she nearly missed it - just sayin. Twas OK! Some of us stuck around with Trev who also tossed in a fresh tune or two. We were cranking along very nicely but the 15 came up all too soon. Blue Chai doin it for us again this week. Terrific chops from Vickie on percussion (some lovely tones in there too), Heathers guitar and lead vocal - the girls put on a show! Theres a subtlety to their music - I enjoy it a lot. Margie calls All In and kicks off the close. We have a handful of ripper tunes - nothing wussy here, and bring it all home on a high. You know, its this sort of finish that keeps me sparking and awake til 3am. Know what I mean anyone? Thatll do. Had a great time and hope you did too. Thanks folks, thanks Margie. See ya next week.
