June 1st marks the beginning of National Safety Month, the official beginning of the six-month Hurricane season, and the start of summer. This means increased travel, hotter temperatures, outdoor work, and, possibly, big storms. To prepare for these and other emergencies, our SAA team of emergency planners works routinely with the Senate community in life-safety planning, assisting in emergency action planning, fire drills and shelter in place exercises. In observance of National Safety Month, here are a few things you can do to increase your overall safety and security at home and in the office: check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, take a first aid/CPR course and plan emergency exit routes with your family.
