June 2, 2014 John 18:33–35 (ESV) So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” The Curiosity of Pilate Many people are curious about Jesus. Is he who he claims to be? Can he do the things people say about him? Is he the Son of God? Pilate wanted to know who Jesus was because I dont believe he had ever seen the Jewish leadership this stirred up, especially over one carpenter. Pilate quickly surmised that there was more to Jesus than he was being told. For those who are truly curious, there is a lot more to Jesus than most people think. Even today people want to know why we as Christians worship a man who died 2,000 years ago. People question whether Jesus even ever lived, and yet the curiosity of the human race where Jesus is concerned continues. There is something very compelling about Jesus Christ that human kind has never been able to shake, solve, or squelch. Even those who claim not to believe in him make it a point to use his name as a curse word because it adds emphasis to their speech to use a powerful name like Jesus. Others make it their aim in life to stamp out the name, to ensure his legacy stops with their generation. They hate those who claim the name of Jesus. Why do they even care? Because the name and person of Jesus is real and every person knows it down in the pit of their soul. Once there, it gnaws at them and it is impossible to put away. Pilate struggled over who the man from Galilee truly was from the day he met Jesus till the day he died. There is no getting away from a decision of knowing who Jesus is. All people everywhere will one day be faced with a final reconciliation with that name. What is your soul telling you?
