June 3rd Forward Day by Day Devotional Reading Ephesians 3:20. To him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine… When I pray, I spend a lot of energy on getting the words right. Whether I’m praying out loud or in my heart, somehow I need to say exactly the right thing—speaking with God in an appropriate manner or describing my theology clearly. Often, I get so tangled up in saying it right, I don’t say anything at all. But God knows what we need. God knows what the folks we’re praying for need. And more than that, God’s imagination is so fertile that even things we have not yet conceived of can grow. “I have come to give them life and life abundant,” says Jesus. Our concept of that abundance can be so limited. Of course God can cure a disease or send money to a relative, but God does so much more! I prayed our alternative spring break trip would be a success. I got a trip that didn’t look anything like what we planned, involved students I didn’t expect, and an art project that brought us together for deep, necessary conversations we wouldn’t have had otherwise. More than I could ask or imagine.
