Just My own thoughts on the Robin Williams news: I just love the insensitive tweets religious ppl post about depression being a spiritual problem. Depression can be spiritual but it can also be strictly physical. Whether or not you believe depression to be a demon, or a chemical imbalance is irrelevant. The fact is that people suffer from it and they need friends and people who actually care to help guide them through it. The reality is that depression is a complex issue. It usually has a very complex CAUSE but the simplification of it is what causes people to ignore hurting people when they dont agree to their simplification of it. If David in the bible was diagnosed by a therapist, he would at least be labeled as BiPolar. He was depressed a good portion of his life and also came out of that depression as well and he was considered A man after Gods own heart. I dont think God is as afraid of peoples pain as much as PEOPLE are. We are so annoyed and disturbed as a society with someone being down. We just want to fix them right away and shut them up. Why is that? Why cant we reach out to those in pain instead of just try to fix them. Sometimes just sitting with someone that hurts or just listening is enough to help. Before Jesus took the biggest, scariest task of his life on, he asked his disciples to be with him for just an hour. They fell asleep and left him alone. Loneliness is the biggest killer of them all. So the next time you want to label someone with spiritual issues for being depressed, try just being there friend or helping in someway. You may find that their depression is not spiritual at all but the basic desire of every human - relationship. Lana Holtz Bagley with Larry Bagley
