Just One Thing = It was a friend of mine that provoked this recently. This friend of mine has just four passions. First is God. Second is family. Third is Nigeria. Fourth is Chelsea. Out of his passion for Nigeria, he raised a query. He asked me to name "just one thing" that an average citizen of Nigeria in any state of the federation or the federation itself is enjoying that can be directly attributable to Government whether at Federal, State or Local Government. This was a query raised amongst several of our friends at a get-together. The surprise was that not one of us could immediately come up with that "one thing" that appear like the real (or fringe benefit) of being a Nigerian citizen or national. Quite a number of our people are wondering the value of the Nigerianness. What a pity! This recalls that fable of the semi-literate ruler of a village petitioning the Governor of the State on their demands. He presented the petition thus: "welikomu gomina, I am a kingi, suku rada rada, it is a sokun kun biri biri, we want to fana si,fana si, we want to fomi si,fomi si..." We already know it, "If Nigeria must develop, we should have selfless leadership that can restore the lost glory in education sector. We must fight corruption and impunity in our government, which is why Nigeria has failed to develop to become a standard and attractive society" Prof Rahmon Bello VC Unilag.
