Just a reminder: We are not delivering on Wednesdays and Sundays - TopicsExpress

Just a reminder: We are not delivering on Wednesdays and Sundays through the off season. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may be for your business. Rain is the name of the game. An overabundance in some key areas and a lack thereof is wreaking havoc on the produce market. Drought conditions along with high temperatures are putting a strain on crops. Quality is variable depending on the location the produce is getting pulled out from. Mexico got hit with Tropical Storm Ingrid making harvesting pretty much impossible. Amazing rain fall totals in Colorado and Midwest has essentially made harvesting and packing extremely hard. South Florida has also had high rain fall causing issues with the beginning of the Fall harvest. The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic have been hit with extremely cold nights which has slowed growing times and ripening times down to a crawl. Keep these things in mind when shopping for your produce. Quality and Prices are going to reflect these issues in the near term. The Lettuce has begun it’s ascent. Slowly currently but we may see a faster climb in the near future with these weather issues. Romaine and Iceberg are both seeing higher prices with variable quality. We have seen new lots of lettuce come off the truck with nice white butts but rust in the heads. Romaine is showing rust in the ribs with burnt tips. These issues can be hard to avoid in these conditions. Citrus is feeling the pain from the weather as well. The Tropical storm in Mexico has halted shipping out of Mexico tightening supplies from the US. Chilean Fruit is also winding down increasing the strain. Navel Orange production out of California is set to start in the near future. Sizing is supposed to be higher than the past few years. With volume expecting to be down a little bit lower than previous years. Eastern Veg remains relatively cheap with signs of a stronger market coming on. The cooler temperatures are beginning to slow harvesting therefore slowing the volume of product coming on the market. This of course follows the rules of supply and demand. Demand could not meet the supply as of late causing prices to be extremely low. With the Supply lightening up we are seeing more reasonable pricing show up. The local melon season has just about come to an end. Cantaloupes are hard to find and Watermelons are becoming fewer as of late. The fall Tomato crop appears to be going ok but Colder nightly temperatures are not allowing the Fruit to ripen very fast. Potatoes are still coming off slowly but limited harvesting due to rain has made the price drop come to a crawl. Finally, PreCut Salads have been very difficult at the end of the week. Taylor Farms is having Romaine issues with one of their major suppliers in Canada. This has forced us to look for 50/50 and 80/20 outside the Taylor Farms world which means higher pricing for the upcoming week. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause this upcoming week but we are told that we should be back on track the week after next. A note to our school customers: Country Fresh has installed their new flow wrapper this week. This should assure air tight packaging on all Pineapple Spears in the future. Thank you for your patience.
