Just cut from my sermon. Didnt want to throw it away, so Im storing it here. My spiritual path has taken me a very long ways away from mainstream Christianity, frankly, from Christianity itself, finding most of my pointers on the way for my spirituality in nature and the natural world, the work of contemporary naturalists as well as the naturalistic spirituality of early Taoism and most of all within the Zen Buddhist traditions that matured in late medieval China. Still, I retrain a fondness for aspects of the Christian traditions, many of their mystics, and several of their advocates for justice in a largely unjust world, and of those, perhaps most of all, I admire Thomas Merton who brought both strands together in his all too brief life.
