Just finished John Grishams whimsical Playing for Pizza. Im a big fan of Grisham and love his legal novels - The Firm, The Client, The Street Lawyer, The Rainmaker etc.... However some of his best work can be found in his non-legal novels such as A Painted House and Skipping Christmas (wonderful book turned into a horrible Hollywood film Christmas with the Kranks). Playing for Pizza is a charming fish out of water story involving a failed American professional quarterback whose last chance at redemption is a stint playing with an Italian Football league who pay for most of their players time with pizza and beer. As usual, Grisham creates interesting and well developed characters and his look at the Italian culture through the eyes of a lost American is both humorous and endearing.
