Just had another great dive. I love diving with my family, and today it was Emma and Thea that joined me on the wreck of the Tri Bird. An intentionally sunk aircraft that is fully intact, but sadly turned turtle as she went down. The Tri Bird lays in 27m/90ft of blue water. As we descended the mooring line and the belly of the aircraft came into view, we spotted about 40 or 50 large Batfish (Platax orbiclarus) hanging under the port wing. Then we entered and swam through the entire aircraft, exiting at the loading ramp. The end of the dive for the last 15 minutes or so, we were given a marine display of truly millions of small anchovy, sprat type baitfish. They were desperately moving like clouds trying to avoid the larger predators that were dive bombing in and out. I have always found that watching a show like that gives me so much in the way of pleasure. Nature at its purest and best. A life and death survival exercise. All too soon after some 35 minutes bottom time, we moved off to the mooring line, did a one minute deep stop at 12m/40ft, followed by a normal safety stop at 5m/15ft for three minutes. A truly great dive that was enhanced by the presence of Emma and Thea, and having the wreck to ourselves. Cheers ladies, and tusen takk for a great dive!!
