Just had the longest phone conversation Ive ever had with my Grandpa (18 minutes). Like most men in their 80s- they can be short, stern, & always let Grandma do the talking. This has always been the scenario when we had time together. He oversaw a large company, he was the boss. I came to accept this as a generational thing. Now, this is a man that at Thanksgiving was told by doctors that he wouldnt make it to see Christmas. It was then that I was faced with the risk of losing someone so close, yet so distant. And here we are today, now in August. During our conversation today, I picked up so many traits that one could envy. Traits that I knew were there, but I just never experienced them because of his way or lack of verbal communication in our relationship. Hes STILL the boss, hes STILL living, & in his words, Im done when Im done. Cant wait for our next call.
